Haysville Residents Warned of Water Contamination

Dangerous chemicals have been found in the water systems of some Haysville homes, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

The state found the contamination in 2011 but due to the backlog, is only now notifying residents. One of those dangerous chemicals is Tetrachloroethylene (PCE). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classify trichloroethylene as a human carcinogen.

This warning relates to private well residences only. An estimated 50 to 100 homes in Haysville will need to be hooked up to the city’s water supply. For more information or to get your well tested, contact the KDHE here.
